Taber Special Needs Society

The Taber Special Needs Society provides vital services to adults with special needs in the Taber area. TSN purchased an existing commercial building to relocate the day-to-day operations of the Society to the heart of Taber’s downtown and asked us to refresh the exterior and design an interior tailored to their needs. With staff and clients, we walked through a typical day of therapy, work, classes and community involvement, using their insights to design a space that could accommodate many simultaneous layers of activity. Inclusivity, independence, and safety were of utmost concern in informing design decisions. We created spaces that were protected and secure but open enough for observation and guidance for diverse client activities. Welcoming, vibrant and mature finishes assist with wayfinding and reinforce the sense of autonomy for clients. The Society now enjoys a respectful and spacious work environment that is warm, open, supportive and uplifting.
